An introduction to Nick Holt - our Director of Development

An introduction from Punter Southall Law

My name is Nick Holt and I am Director of Development at Punter Southall Law.

I have been involved in the business of law in one way or another for more than forty years.

I trained and qualified at a magic circle firm, was in-house at major listed companies in Hong Kong and London and was one of the founding partners of the London office of a major US firm. I was also the managing partner of one of the law firms associated with a Big 4 accounting firm. I then spent fifteen years headhunting senior lawyers for some of the world’s leading law firms.

So, it’s fair to say that as well as knowing a lot of lawyers, I have got to know quite a bit about how law firms work. Don’t get me wrong, there are some great firms out there, but the big firm model doesn’t work for everyone, particularly when it comes to offering their experienced lawyers the flexibility and longevity that they so often want, or the freedom to act for clients across rigid practice area dividing lines. There is also a sense that for senior lawyers the exit door is only a short step away.

As a lawyer, as a client and as a head-hunter and advisor to both law firms and lawyers, I felt that there had to be a better way, a model that could fairly reward contribution, as well as having a clear focus on giving the clients what they want.

I was therefore delighted to join forces with the Punter Southall Group to establish Punter Southall Law as a firm with that ambition so clearly in mind. We are a consultancy model law firm that values both talent and ambition. We are at the early stages of what will be an exciting journey. We want to talk to experienced commercial lawyers who are excited by the prospect of building something different and being part of a wider group of companies. Your specific legal area of expertise is less important to us than your entrepreneurial mindset and a strong client focus.
