Punter Southall Law Partners, Peter Bradley and Martin Finnegan, acted for the Big Issue Invest Social Enterprise Investment Fund on its recent multi-million pound investment into Village Underground’s live performance venues in East London.
The fund’s mission statement is to dismantle poverty by creating opportunity through self-help, social trading and business solutions.
The Village Underground investment will help to establish creative training programmes for young people, showcase their talent and further work with local providers, including a music charity, to enable greater access to opportunities across the music industry.
James Potter, Big Issue Invest’s Investment Director, said of working with Punter Southall Law:
“Peter and Martin worked tirelessly with our deal team; their combined expertise and pragmatism greatly assisted in delivering on a project that the Big Issue Invest Social Enterprise Investment Fund is deeply committed to.”
This investment represents the third and most significant equity investment for Big Issue Invest Social Enterprise Investment Fund II LP (“BII SEIF II”) and will be used to underpin future growth at VU.
With this investment, BII SEIF II is now 95% committed. Every SEIF II investment delivers or facilitates social impact to marginalised members of society whose life outcomes are enhanced as a result of their clients’ engagement with these social enterprises.
