John is a Scheme Actuary acting for a variety of pension schemes, from small, one-man arrangements, to schemes with thousands of members. He currently acts as an actuary to over twenty occupational pension schemes.
He was educated at Harrow and Cambridge University, and began his actuarial training and professional studies with Sedgwick Employee Benefits in September 1980. John joined Elliot Associates Limited in September 1984, being promoted to Director after four years, and then to Managing Director in 1990. In 1985, whilst at Elliot Associates, he qualified as a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries.
He then went on to set up BGJ & Co Limited in 1993, a consultancy company specialising in corporate pensions, and providing actuarial, advisory and administrative services for occupational pension schemes. BGJ & Co was merged with Punter Southall in 2002. In 2004, John was appointed as Chief Executive of the company.
John has provided expert reports on matters relating to the mis-selling of personal pensions, actuarial advice and pensions administration, and has also acted as an expert adviser in mediations on pension matters.
