Andy graduated from Edinburgh University, with a degree in Mathematics and Statistics and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries. He has been involved in the pensions industry for over twenty years, both with consultancies and life offices. He joined Punter Southall as a Principal in October 2000 and has headed up our Edinburgh Office ever since.
Andy has a wealth of pensions experience and is Scheme Actuary to a wide range of clients. He founded our independent trustee arm, PS Independent Trustees Limited, and has recently specialised in scheme wind-ups, both from an actuarial viewpoint and as independent trustee. He was also instrumental in founding PSFMs Executive Pensions Unit that provides services for Small Self Administered Schemes (SSASs) and Self Invested Personal Pensions (SIPPs).
In the 1990s, Andy was actively involved in helping frame the legislation on pension rights on divorce and has been a regular speaker on the subject. He has acted as an expert witness and, in 1996, he was appointed a Member of the Academy of Experts.
Andy regularly provides comments and articles to the press and also speaks at industry conferences.
Away from work, Andy played rugby and cricket for many years with Stewarts Melville FP Club and London Scottish and is now a keen golfer.
