Andrew MacRae has a Mathematical Statistics degree from Birmingham University. He has in-depth experience in the field of pension provision gained through 25 years as a practising actuary, and has advised FTSE 100 listed and other large companies and their pension schemes. His current clients include Yell, Belron (Autoglass) and Invensys.
Andrew relishes servicing clients, and is dedicated to responding to their needs. His actuarial knowledge and experience ensure that he is able to tackle the most complex issues relating to the valuation of a scheme, and to the setting of future levels of contributions. He has recently determined the level of future contributions to a scheme, requiring a consultation process with the trustees and sponsoring company, and the balancing of their conflicting requirements and objectives.
With the greater emphasis that trustees must now place on their corporate governance, his skill in providing them with guidance on the general management of their scheme and on investment strategy and its implementation are invaluable. Andrew combines both an incisive overview and a grasp of detail that ensures speedy and effective advice. He is particularly skilled at distilling complex abstract ideas into terms that are clear and accessible to lay trustees. He is a hands-on professional decision-maker of the utmost integrity, whose technical strength and ability to think out-of-the-box ensures creative solutions to complex issues.
He has particular expertise in advising companies on acquisitions and disposals, scheme re-organisations, and reconstructions. He has proven ability in the negotiation of solutions to the most intractable of problems that enable transactions to proceed. Andrew also has detailed knowledge of the requirements for accounting for pension and other costs in company accounts. Last year, he led a project for a client to consolidate their worldwide pension costs under SSAP24, FRS17 & IAS19. This project was successfully completed in accordance with the timescale and other requirements set by the client.
Andrew is the Principal responsible for the management of the Guildford office, and has developed a strong team of actuaries and supporting staff that provides comprehensive services to a wide range of clients.
Until recently he was a member of the Professional Affairs Board of the Actuarial Profession, and of the Institute of Actuaries Committee responsible for its status as a Designated Professional Body under the Financial Services and Markets Act.
