| The New Pensions Landscape - Seminar 2 – Living with Pensions Risk |
The second of our 2007 seminars continues the theme of reviewing how the changes
brought in during 2005 and 2006 under the Pensions Act and Finance Acts are working out
in practice. The seminar is again intended for trustees, employers and pensions managers
and will concentrate specifically on developments in the way pension schemes can manage
risk. We will consider the key area of risk for many defined benefit schemes – investment –
and then go on to address other, wider areas of risk, with particular focus given to:
• new duration based approaches to liability valuations;
• modelling of risk premia;
• measures to de-risk the scheme; and
• risks of Regulatory intervention.

| The New Pensions Landscape - Seminar 1 – Scheme Funding |
In 2005-6, we ran a series of seminars called ‘The Final Countdown’ counting down to the crucial
pension changes that took place in April 2005 and 2006. Now that we are all familiar with the
new pensions landscape, we are launching a further series of seminars for trustees and
employers, examining how the new regimes are working out in practice and also looking at some
of the new challenges being faced by occupational pension schemes. Click here to find out more --> |

Punter Southall Group are pleased to host an important debate looking at how meeting

MarkWood (Chief Executive, Paternoster) and Ian Mills (Vice President, Credit Suisse) will
debate the current and potential solutions to controlling mortality risk in a pension scheme.
The evening’s chairman, DavidWilletts MP, will then take questions from the floor for

Age Discrimination Round Tables – Monday 6th & Monday 13th November 2006 |
Following considerable pressure from lawyers, industry professionals, trustees and employers, the Government agreed to delay the implementation of the pensions aspects of the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 until 1 December 2006. During this two month delay, the DWP will be consulting on amendments to the exemptions set out in legislation and on further guidance. We have now seen some draft amending regulations and are expecting to see revised guidance any day now. Click here to find out more --> |

Punter Southall & Co Lecture Series –Developing the Protection Agenda
Lawrence Churchill - 8 November 2006 |
The Pension Protection Fund (PPF) has rarely been out of the news in the eighteen months since it
came into existence in April 2005. Recent headlines have announced the publication of its investment
strategy, the arrival of this year’s levy invoices and proposals for the shape of next year’s levy. The
decisions made by the PPF have significant impacts on trustees and employers – both because of the
immediate cost of the levy and also because of wider influences on company and trustee behaviour. Click here to find out more --> |

The Nature of the Pensions Promise – A Panel Discussion - 16 October 2006 |
The DWP has proposed a regulatory review of pensions legislation. However, before we look at any changes in detail, we need to be clear on the fundamentals of exactly what the defined benefit pensions promise means to different stakeholders whether they be members, trustees or employers, venture capitals, trade unionists or industry professionals. Managing Business Risk: The role of pensions and employee benefits - 20 July 2006 |
UK companies face risks from all areas of their business with pensions and employee benefits being no exception. Our seminar will look not only at the risks created by pensions and benefits and how these can be managed, but also how they can be used as tools to control other areas of uncertainty faced by businesses. This session will aim to bring together issues faced by HR, Finance Directors and Pensions Managers – looking at how they interact and can be most effectively dealt with as a whole. Trustee Training Programme - various dates |
A programme of introductory and advanced one day courses for pension scheme trustees. The Pensions Act 1995 gave trustees significant responsibilities to exercise, and the Myners Report confirmed that trustee training is pivotal to good pension scheme governance. The Pensions Act 2004 recognises the need for trustee education in the areas of pension and trust law, investment and scheme funding. The Trustee Training Programme sets in place the fundamental principles which will enable trustees to carry out their duties and obligations. New trustees need to acquaint themselves with many of the issues surrounding the operation of their scheme.
