A programme of introductory and advanced one day courses for pension scheme trustees.
The Pensions Act 1995 gave trustees significant responsibilities to exercise, and the Myners Report confirmed that trustee training is pivotal to good pension scheme governance. The pensions Act 2004 recognises the need for trustee education in the areas of pension and trust law, investment and scheme funding. The Trustee Training Programme sets in place the fundamental principles which will enable trustees to carry out their duties and obligations. New trustees need to acquaint themselves with many of the issues surrounding the operation of their scheme.
The introductory training courses are aimed at trustees who have not yet received any training or who wish to enhance their existing knowledge. The course has been designed and developed primarily to give newly appointed trustees a solid understanding of their duties and to make them aware of all major aspects of their responsibilities as trustees.
The advanced courses are aimed at trustees who have had prior training and experience and wish to consider more detailed aspects of their responsibilities, particularly with regard to investment.
Outline Programme
To encourage discussion, the courses will involve two interactive workshops. All necessary documents and delegate notes will be supplied on the day of the course. All the courses are presented by a mixture of qualified actuarial, legal, administration and investment specialists.
