The costs associated with funding defined benefit (DB) schemes, complying with legislation and ever-rising levies have inevitably led to a significant growth in defined contribution (DC) benefit provision. After all the difficulties experienced with DB schemes, trustees and sponsoring employers may have welcomed the DC alternative as a simple solution. However, as the membership of DC arrangements has grown, so has experience of making the transition and the issues associated with implementation, administration and governance indicate that DC could in fact stand for ‘Deceptively Complicated’!
The conference aims to help pensions managers, trustees and company representatives to get to grips with DC issues and will consider the pros and cons of trust and contract based defined contribution options. It will investigate the legal issues that arise when moving from defined benefit to defined contribution and the Pensions Regulator will discuss their consultation document on the regulation of defined contribution schemes. Finally, Stephen Haddrill will outline the pensions issues facing the ABI with particular consideration of the new proposals for Personal Accounts.
Venue: H.G. Wells Conference and Events Centre, Woking
Chairman: David Willetts – MP
