Health and protection

This provides an interesting and varied working environment, helping corporate clients with risk benefits, medical insurance and occupational health arrangements.

 Overview

There are many varied roles within Health & Protection, ranging from administration/ support and technical roles, through to account management, consultancy and managerial positions in both business and product development.  We support our employees in their development by reviewing their knowledge and skill set, and then setting regularly reviewed objectives that both meet our business needs and provide meaningful career progression prospects.  Our account managers participate in client meetings, and this provides a natural progression towards senior account management or consultancy.

Training and development within Health & Protection is a mixture of in-house training on our internal processes, products and services, and attaining industry recognised qualifications.  We actively encourage our employees to achieve qualifications set by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) in both of our core disciplines; group risk and medical insurance.  We are committed to their study by providing training material for exams, meeting the cost of examination entry and allowing time off for both study and examinations.

We offer a stimulating and rewarding environment to work in, actively encouraging team building and strengthening team moral through funding many social events.  We offer employee incentive schemes, including an employee of the quarter award, where employees are encouraged to participate by submitting nominations for their colleagues.

Interesting fact!

We were in the process of adopting when I miraculously fell pregnant twice in three years.

I have been working in the financial services Industry for 21 years, starting off in banking as a mortgage adviser.  My first experience of working within an IFA practice was in 1998 when I joined City Assurance Consultants.  Punter Southall acquired City Assurance in 2008.

When one business merges with another, employees are naturally a little apprehensive but my experience has been extremely positive. I really enjoy working as part of a bigger group and the support and structure this provides.

I have always enjoyed developing relationships with both clients and insurers and delivering solutions and best value.  The knowledge I have gained at both City Assurance and more recently PSHPC has been varied, including pensions, medical and group risk.

Prior to having my second child, born in 2009, I worked as a consultant providing advice to clients on their employee benefit arrangements; however, more recently I work as a Project Manager.  This work is really varied, including report writing, developing training plans and researching product developments.  It has certainly been a great way to update my knowledge after a career break.

Working at PSHPC has given me the opportunity to balance work and family life as I have two pre-school children.  I really enjoy working as part of the team and adding value by completing projects that otherwise may get buried in the demands of a busy day.

Interesting fact!

I used to live in the South Pacific when I was younger and I once took part in a triathlon, which involved a 1.2 km swim, a 40km cycle and a 10km run. I was aged 14 and I finished first in my age group.

I joined Punter Southall in 2007, from Mercer, to be part of the newly established Health & Protection team.  My role as account manager involves looking after a number of key clients, across a wide range of industry sectors, and assisting with their group risk arrangements. My day-to-day role requires me to manage all aspects of my key accounts and I have established strong working relationships with both financial directors and HR representatives.

Working in the Health & Protection team has given me the opportunity to get to know different parts of the business and work with a variety of different people, such as actuaries, pension consultants and administration teams.

I enjoy being part of the Health & Protection team and feel proud of what we have achieved over the last three years. I look forward to developing the business further to meet the ever-changing needs of our clients.

Finally, I feel that Punter Southall has been very supportive in helping me pursue my career ambitions in terms of the training provided and the experience I have gained from visiting clients.
